Manjai Kunda kindergarten and school

In the suburb of Manjai Kunda, near the tourist resorts along the Gambian coast, there is a small preschool and school. They aim to embrace the Waldorf education in an African culture. Among other things, there is a school garden and a bakery on campus. The intention is to have the school be a multi-cultural meeting place where all people, regardless of background, while engaging in sports, nature, art, music and conversation, can learn about life and each other. Gambia's population needs an alternative to the Western influence from the tourist areas and the meetings that occur there. The school in Manjai Kunda would make it possible to allow other ways to meet across boundaries in order to enrich each other. The school is supported by the Manjai Kundagruppen in Sweden, in part through mentoring and educational exchanges. The Parents' Association for the school is called Ya Fatou ak Yaji Halei.

Several 12-classes from the Rudolf Steiner School in Lund have been to Gambia in order to visit the kindergarten in Manjai Kunda and help in the building of its venues and facilities.
