Kärnfrågorna under förstudien är att undersöka möjligheterna för att fördjupa och synliggöra Peter Oloyas unika arbete med att rehabilitera och bearbeta krigsutsatta barns trauman. Det unika med Peter är att han själv har varit barnsoldat och kan därmed förstå och se hur dessa barn och ungdomar har traumatiserats. Peter vill ge dem bra och god rehabilitering genom att måla och få uttrycka sig konstnärligt. De behöver terapi för att kunna komma vidare i sina liv och för att på så sätt kunna bidra till det Nigerianska samhällets positiva utveckling inom den demokratiska processen.

Maria och Peter vill också med denna förstudie undersöka om förutsättningar finns med att fredsprojektet “Art for Peace” ska kunna spridas över hela Afrika, och där redan nu fler konstnärer ingår i gruppen. Detta är ett arbete som kommer från “gräsrötter” och växer sig starkare på ett demokratiskt sätt.

Målgruppen är barn och tonåringar men kan framledes även ses som en tillgång för andra åldrar för rehabilitering i liknande frågor.

Beskrivning av samarbetspartnern
Peter arbetar i samarbete med konstorganisationen CCA (Centre for Contemporary Arts) Lagos http://ccalagos.org/ och konstinstitutionen vid Yaba College of Technology http://portal.yabatech.edu.ng/ och även i den regionalt styrda existerande strukturen.

Peters arbete i denna form har pågått sedan 2006.

PRELIMINARY STUDY FOR PROJECT: ART AFRICA

The artists Maria Grette, Marin Hemmingsson and Peter Oloya have established contact and are working on a project to rehabilitate war-traumatized children. Mr. Oloya also has a project called Art for Peace promoting  the culture of peace, unity, non violent and co-existence, religious tolerance between Christians and Muslims in Uganda/Nigeria. Key to the feasibility study is to clarify Mr. Oloyas unique methods in rehabilitating and treating the traumas of war torn children, his unique insights stemming from having been a child soldier himself. By expressing themselves artistically, the children can be diagnosed and treated successfully and reintegrated into the positive democratic process underway in Uganda/Nigeria today.
Maria and Peter also wish to investigate the feasibility of establishing the already proven model of the Art for Peace project on a pan-African level. Art for Peace already involves several influential artists, it is a true "grassroots movement" growing stronger democratically. The work is already establish in northern Uganda through  AFOCOD (a grassroot organisation that Peter Oloya founded 2004 ”Art For Community Development”). The beneficiaries is children and youth, and other age groups with similar traumas. The project can also be adapted to other groups with problems such as psycho-social disability.
Basing on this we are planning to establish an Art Therapy training in Kampala, Uganda for artist from the African region.

Art for community development
Peter Oloya has since 2006 worked in collaboration with the Center for Contemporary Arts (CCA), Lagos http://ccalagos.org/ and the art faculty at Yaba College of Technology http://portal.yabatech.org.ng/
The group meets physically and over internet, work-methods are adapted accordingly. At the present moment Peter Oloya is in Sweden to develop the project together with the Art Africa group within the SOFIA Association.

Aims and objectives of the project
The aim of the pilot study is to establish feasibility of the project wich includes meeting Artist, Art Institutions and reprecentatives of the Goethe Institute. Visit relevant Government Minitsry- and Health Institutions as well as hospitals, rehabilitation centers and orphanages as part of our planned field trip.
Within this schedule we intend to make a collaboration workshop with the Goethe Institute on partnership.
