The East-West Group for the development of pharma-education and social therapy was founded in 1994 as a group on a business basis within the Anthroposophical Society, from 2003 also as non-profit association. East-West Group was a co-founder of the SOFIA association.

The group has had contact with most of medical educational activities in the former Soviet Union, but the main project is to support the development of the medical teaching courses in Yekaterinburg and Irkutsk in Russia. A network for the teaching of medicine and teaching activities in the Baikal region is also supported, and there are close links with businesses in Georgia and the Ukraine.
